Gennaro Ivan “Rino” Gattuso was born on the 9th January 1978 and plays for AC Milan and Italy. Defensive midfielder and known for his hard-tackling he can certainly break down any opposition attack almost single-handedly. Determined and with a great fighting spirit he was considered at a certain point in time as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. However his temperament may be seen as a weakness as he seems to receive yellow cards quite often. He was at the heart of the midfield of the Italian side that won the World Cup in 2006.

His style of play has earned him the nickname of Ringhio (Growl).

He was sent off in the UEFA Champions League match in September 2003 because he slapped Ajax’s Zlatan Ibrahimovitch in the face.

Gattuso was capped 70 times for his country.

He considers his former manager Walter Smith as being a second father for him.

Gattuso is married to Monica Romano whom he met while playing for Rangers

Gattuso and his wife Monica have a daughter, Gabriella (born 20 June 2004), and a son, Francesco (born 8 November 2007)

Gattuso is renowned to have removed his shorts and run in underwear as a celebration when Italy won the World Cup in 2006.
