Biography

Gennaro Gattuso is a player for AC Milan and the Italian national team. He currently plays defensive midfielder and is one of the best at this post.
Originally from Calabria in southern Italy, Gennaro “Rino” Gattuso has special characteristics. Temperamental player, Gennaro Gattuso often gives the image of being impulsive and violent on the field. Indeed this is one of the characteristics of his game in order to intimidate the opponent.

Gattuso is also very talented when it comes to his placement on the field and thus can often succeed in cutting the track in order to break down the enemy offensive.

After an unsuccessful attempt with Bologna, Gennaro Gattuso is accepted into the club Perugia where he will undergo all his training.
Gennaro Gattuso will win with Perugia, the youth championship (Primavera) in 1996-1997. However He will be transferred at the end of the season to Glasgow Rangers, but due to the lack of playing opportunity he will choose to return to Italy.
Gennaro Gattuso will sign for Salernitana where he will play quite well, but at the end of the season his club will be relegated. In 1999 he will sign for the AC Milan where he will be used by the manager in a defensive midfielder role. This will allow Adrea Pirlo some freedom to go forward and to dictate the play of the side.

Season after season Gattuso will continue to play at the heart of the Milan midfield and break down opposition attacks one after the other. He will win the Champions League for the first time in 2005 when the Italian side beat Schalke O4. He will play his 300th game for the Italian side in September 2006 and he will go on to win the Champions League for a second time by defeating Liverpool in the final by 2-1.

On the International scene Gattuso has also enjoyed his fair share of success by playing in the 2000 Summer Olympics, the 2002 World Cup, Euro 2004, the 2006 World Cup, Euro 2008, the 2009 Confederations Cup and the 2010 World Cup. The highlight of his career may certainly be when Italy won the World Cup in 2006.

Gattuso was at the heart of the midfield and won the man of the match award in the game against Ukraine. Together with his midfield partner at Milan, Andrea Pirlo they succeeded in controlling the midfield and together they will go on to win the World Cup.
